Frequently Asked Questions

FISHINGPALPRO

Frequently Asked Questions

Version 1.0 | Last Updated: June 2026

GETTING STARTED

(1). Getting Started

Q: What is FishingPalPro?

FishingPalPro is an iOS fishing companion app that helps you fish smarter. It combines solunar predictions, lunar phase data, and real-time weather to show you the best times to fish — then lets you log every catch with GPS location, species details, and photos. A Premium subscription (FishingPalPro+) unlocks extended forecasts, unlimited logging, and more.

Q: What devices and iOS versions are supported?

FishingPalPro is compatible with iPhone running iOS 17.0 or later. The app is optimized for all iPhone screen sizes and supports both Light and Dark mode. An iPad-compatible version is in development.

Q: Is FishingPalPro free?

Yes — FishingPalPro is free to download and includes core features at no cost, including daily fishing predictions, basic weather data, and up to 10 catch log entries. FishingPalPro+ Premium unlocks extended forecasts, unlimited logging, photo attachments, data exports, and more. A free 7-day trial is available.

Q: Do I need to create an account?

An account is not required to use the free tier. Creating an account allows you to back up your catch log data, sync across devices in future app versions, and manage your Premium subscription. You can sign up with Apple ID, email, or social login.

Q: Does FishingPalPro work offline?

Core features — including your saved catch log and previously loaded fishing predictions — are available offline. Real-time weather data and updated solunar forecasts require an internet connection. We recommend refreshing the app before heading out.

Tip: Turn on Background App Refresh in iOS Settings to ensure predictions are up to date when you open the app on the water.

FISHING PREDICTIONS

(2). Fishing Predictions & Solunar Forecasts

Q: How does FishingPalPro calculate fishing predictions?

Our predictions are based on solunar theory — a method pioneered by naturalist John Alden Knight in the 1920s and popularized by the Farmers' Almanac. The algorithm factors in:

• Lunar phase (new moon, full moon, quarters)

• Sun and moon rise/set times for your location

• Solunar major and minor feeding periods

• Barometric pressure trends from real-time weather data

• Seasonal adjustments based on time of year

Together these factors produce a daily bite-rating score and identify the top feeding windows for your area.

Q: What is a 'Major' vs 'Minor' period?

Major periods occur when the moon is directly overhead or directly underfoot (opposite side of Earth). They typically last 1.5 to 2 hours and represent the strongest feeding windows. Minor periods occur when the moon rises or sets and last approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour. Both are significant, but Major periods generally produce the most active fish feeding.

Q: How far in advance can I see forecasts?

The free tier shows today's predictions and a 3-day outlook. FishingPalPro+ Premium extends this to a 14-day forecast with hourly bite-rating charts, letting you plan trips well in advance.

Q: Are predictions accurate for saltwater fishing?

Yes. Solunar theory applies to both fresh and saltwater fish species. Tidal movements in saltwater environments are themselves driven by the same lunar forces, so the predictions are equally relevant for inshore, offshore, and coastal fishing. Note that tide charts specific to your marina or inlet are best sourced from NOAA or local tide tables.

Q: Why didn't I catch anything during a 'peak' window?

Solunar predictions indicate increased fish feeding activity — not a guarantee of a catch. Many other factors affect fishing success:

• Water clarity and temperature

• Depth and structure (where fish are holding)

• Bait/lure selection and presentation

• Current and wind conditions

• Local fishing pressure

Use the predictions as one tool in your toolkit, not as a promise. Consistent anglers track their catches against prediction scores to learn how fish behave in their specific waters.

Tip: Log every outing in the catch log — even slow trips. Over time, your personal data reveals patterns specific to your local fishery that no algorithm can know.

WEATHER

(3). Weather Data

Q: Where does the weather data come from?

FishingPalPro sources weather data from reputable third-party meteorological data providers. Data is refreshed at regular intervals to ensure accuracy. The app displays conditions most relevant to anglers: temperature, wind speed and direction, barometric pressure, humidity, cloud cover, and chance of precipitation.

Q: Why is barometric pressure important for fishing?

Barometric pressure (atmospheric pressure) significantly affects fish behavior. In general:

• Rising pressure — fish often become more active and move shallower

• High stable pressure — good fishing; fish are comfortable and feeding

• Falling pressure — fish may feed aggressively just before a storm front

• Low stable pressure — fish tend to be less active and go deeper

FishingPalPro factors pressure trends into the bite-rating score to reflect these behavioral patterns.

Q: The weather in the app doesn't match what I see outside. Why?

Weather data is sourced from the nearest available weather station and may be several miles from your exact location. Localized conditions — such as a storm cell over a specific lake — can differ from regional data. Always use the app's weather as a planning guide, not a substitute for local observation or official weather services for safety decisions.

CATCH LOG & GPS

(4). Catch Log & GPS Mapping

Q: How do I log a catch?

Tap the + button on the Catch Log tab to open a new catch entry. You can record:

• Species

• Weight and length

• Bait or lure used

• Time and date (auto-filled)

• GPS location (auto-filled if location permission is granted)

• Notes and photo (Premium)

Tap Save to store the entry. It will appear on your catch map as a pin.

Tip: For hands-free logging on the water, use the Siri Shortcut — see Section 5.

Q: My GPS location isn't populating when I log a catch. What should I do?

If the GPS coordinates aren't filling in, try these steps:

• Ensure FishingPalPro has 'While Using the App' location permission: go to iPhone Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > FishingPalPro and select 'While Using'

• Make sure Location Services are enabled globally: iPhone Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services (toggle on)

• If you're indoors, GPS accuracy may be reduced. Move outside or near a window

• Wait a few seconds after opening the log entry form — the app may still be acquiring your GPS fix

• Restart the app if the loading indicator continues spinning without resolving

If the problem persists after these steps, please contact support@fishingpalpro.com with your iPhone model and iOS version.

Q: How many catch entries can I store?

The free tier supports up to 10 catch entries. FishingPalPro+ Premium provides unlimited catch log storage. Premium users can also attach photos to each entry and export their full catch history as a CSV or PDF report.

Q: Can I edit or delete a catch entry?

Yes. Swipe left on any catch entry in the log list to reveal Edit and Delete options. You can also tap on a map pin to open the entry and edit it directly.

Q: Is my catch data backed up?

Catch data is stored locally on your device and is included in iCloud Backup if you have iCloud Backup enabled in your iPhone settings. We recommend enabling iCloud Backup to protect your fishing history. Cloud sync across multiple devices is a planned feature for a future update.

SIRI & VOICE

(5). Siri Voice Integration

Q: How do I use Siri to log a catch?

FishingPalPro includes a Siri Shortcut for hands-free catch logging. To set it up:

• Open FishingPalPro and go to Settings > Siri Shortcuts

• Tap 'Add to Siri' next to 'Log a Catch'

• Record a custom phrase or use the default

• Tap Done

Once set up, say 'Hey Siri, [your phrase]' to open a quick catch entry form. Your GPS location will be captured automatically.

Tip: Set up the Siri Shortcut at home before your next trip so it's ready when your hands are full on the water.

Q: Siri isn't recognizing my command. What should I check?

If Siri isn't triggering the FishingPalPro shortcut, check the following:

• Hey Siri is enabled: iPhone Settings > Siri & Search > Listen for 'Hey Siri'

• The shortcut is active in the Shortcuts app: open Shortcuts, find the FishingPalPro shortcut, and confirm it's enabled

• FishingPalPro has Siri permission: iPhone Settings > Siri & Search > FishingPalPro (toggle 'Use with Siri' on)

• Try re-recording your Siri phrase(s) in a quiet environment. Siri has to be trained to listen to your voice; say phrases repeatedly.

Q: Can Siri log the full catch details including species and weight?

The current Siri Shortcut opens a quick-entry form pre-filled with your current GPS location and timestamp. You can then fill in species, weight, and other details manually. Full voice-dictated entry with species and weight recognition is a Premium feature active with purchase.

CALENDAR

(6). Calendar Integration

Q: How does the Fishing Calendar work?

The Fishing Calendar shows your upcoming peak solunar windows color-coded by bite rating. You can tap any day to see its Major and Minor feeding periods. With calendar permission granted, you can save fishing trip reminders directly to your iOS Calendar — so your best fishing windows appear alongside your other appointments.

Q: How do I add a fishing reminder to my iOS Calendar?

On the Calendar tab, tap a day with a high-rated window, then tap 'Add to Calendar' next to the time slot you want. The app will create a calendar event with the prediction details. Calendar access must be granted the first time you use this feature.

TROUBLESHOOTING

(9). Troubleshooting

Q: The app is crashing or freezing. What should I do?

Try these steps in order:

• Force-close the app: swipe up from the bottom of the screen, find FishingPalPro, and swipe up to close it. Relaunch.

• Restart your iPhone: hold the side button and a volume button, then slide to power off.

• Check for app updates: open the App Store, go to your profile, and check for pending updates.

• Free up device storage: the app needs at least 500 MB of free space to operate smoothly.

• Reinstall the app: delete FishingPalPro and reinstall from the App Store. Your iCloud-backed data will be restored.

If crashes continue, please email support@fishingpalpro.com with your iPhone model, iOS version, and a description of when the crash occurs.

Q: The Premium upgrade button doesn't seem to work. What's happening?

If tapping the upgrade button doesn't respond correctly, try the following:

• Ensure you're connected to the internet — the App Store requires an active connection to process purchases

• Check that your Apple ID payment method is valid in iPhone Settings > [Your Name] > Payment & Shipping

• Force-close the app and reopen it, then try again

• Restart your device

If the button registers a tap in the wrong location on screen, please report it to support@fishingpalpro.com with your iPhone model so we can investigate the layout on that screen size.

Q: Weather or predictions aren't loading. Why?

This is almost always a connectivity issue. Check that:

• Your iPhone has an active Wi-Fi or cellular connection

• Airplane mode is off

• FishingPalPro has network access: iPhone Settings > FishingPalPro > ensure 'Mobile Data' is on

If you're on a strong connection and data still isn't loading, the weather data provider may be experiencing a temporary outage. Try again in a few minutes. If the problem persists, contact support.

Q: The settings screen looks off — I can't see all the options. What's wrong?

If UI elements appear cut off or overlapping on the Settings screen (including the Premium upgrade section), this may be a display scaling issue on your device. Try:

• Go to iPhone Settings > Display & Brightness > Display Zoom and set it to 'Default'

• Check that Text Size is set to the default in iPhone Settings > Display & Brightness > Text Size

• Force-close and reopen the app

If the issue persists on your specific device, please email support@fishingpalpro.com with a screenshot and your iPhone model.
